BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (5-1, 0-0 MAC) defeated the Dartmouth Big Green (1-1, 0-0 Ivy League) on Saturday afternoon, 3-1.
This marked the first time since the 2024 season where the Bulls went 3-0 on the week.
Sydney Bell led Buffalo's attack with 15 kills and a .500 hitting percentage, a career high. Manoela Forlin recorded her third double-double on the season with 12 kills and 10 digs. This marked her 13th career double-double. Hailey Campagna continued to be red hot on the attack as she tallied 13 kills.
Sadie Gladhill set a season-high 14 digs on the afternoon. Maddie Mitchell finished with 36 assists and nine digs.
The Bulls had the edge from the service line with eight aces to Dartmouth's two. However, both team struggled as the Bulls had 14 service errors with the Big Green finishing with 18.
SET 1 | The Bulls imposed their will against the Big Green as they led wire-to-wire in the set. Buffalo's offense hit .438 and were perfect on the reception. Bell was error free on the attack with six kills on eight attempts for a .750 hitting percentage. The Bulls took the set, 25-22.
SET 2 | Buffalo continued to dominate the contest despite only hitting .054 in the set. They tallied seven aces in the set, three of which came from Mitchell. Angelina Siepierski also added a pair of aces. Bell was still error free through two sets as she had 11 kills on 15 attempts.
SET 3 | The Bulls looked for the sweep, but Dartmouth had other plans. Buffalo led 15-10 at the media timeout, but the Big Green ended up going on a 9-0 run to take a 19-15 lead. Buffalo tightened the set forcing a timeout at 24-23, but Dartmouth hung on to avoid the sweep, 25-23.
SET 4 | The Bulls prevailed in the fourth set holding Dartmouth to a .031 hitting percentage. Campagna led the Bulls with four kills as Bell, Forlin and Adebayo each had three. Buffalo won the set 25-17 to take the match.
"I like the lessons our team has been learning through this non-conference schedule," stated Head Coach Scott Smith. "We have been challenged in different ways by each team and found different ways to win games and that is what it will take to find success in the MAC. We will need to more consistently execute to our program standard, but we have displayed a high ceiling at times."
The Bulls are back in action on Friday for three matches at the Queens Invitational in Charlotte, N.C. They'll face Presbyterian and Queens on Friday followed by Chattanooga on Saturday.
