Bulls Win in a Flash Against Kent State

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (9-3, 1-0 MAC) swept the Kent State Golden Flashes (6-7, 0-2 MAC) on Friday evening, 25-21, 25-16, 26-24. This is just the second time in the program's Division I history the Bulls have won four consecutive matches in a sweep.
In the win, Manoela Forlin recorded her 14th career double-double with a team leading 12 kills and 13 digs. Forlin is now 11 kills away from 1,000 in her career. Hailey Campagna also added 12 kills with Sydney Bell adding 10 of her own. As a team, the Bulls outhit the Golden Flashes, .235 to .129.
Anaya Cole dove all over the floor as she racked up a match-high 17 digs. Sadie Gladhill added 12 on the night.
Campagna led Buffalo with four total blocks, three of which were solo blocks. Nienke Trossel had a career-high three solo blocks as Abisola Adebayo added three total blocks.
SET 1 | With only one lead change, the Bulls controlled the set. They lead by as many as seven at the 12-5 mark of the set. Neither team was efficient on the attack as both squads hit sub .125. Buffalo won the set, 25-21.
SET 2 | Kent State led 7-5, but Buffalo rattled off a 7-0 run with Cole on the serve to force a timeout. The Bulls went on to lead 15-10 at the media timeout, but pushed it to 19-12 before the Golden Flashes used their final timeout. The Bulls went on to take the set, 25-16. Kent State hit .000 in the set.
SET 3 | Leading 2-0 in sets, the Bulls nearly fell in the third set. With 11 ties and four lead changes, Kent State pushed the envelope. Buffalo trailed 10-5, but out of a timeout, they cut the deficit to 10-9. Kent State led at the media timeout, 15-13, but the Bulls fought back to go up 21-20. The Golden Flashes punched back as they got to set point leading 24-23. The Bulls denied the opposition as a 3-0 run secured the match, 26-24.
"Great to get a sweep In our MAC opener," exclaimed Head Coach Scott Smith. "We had big contributions from our pins tonight to really drive the offense, and locked in when we really had to in the third set. We started off the match with some aggressive serving which helped us establish our block. We will need to clean up our defensive effort and limit our unforced errors moving forward, but we are starting to find our identity."
The Bulls return to Broadview Arena on Sunday as they'll host the reigning MAC Tournament Champion Toledo Rockets at 3 p.m. Coverage will be on ESPN+.
