Women’s Basketball Hosts Western Michigan on Wednesday

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's basketball returns to Alumni Arena for the final homestand of the regular season, beginning Wednesday when they host Western Michigan at 6pm. It will be the team's Play 4 Kay game as well as Game ChangeHER night at Alumni Arena.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Paul Peck (play-by-play) and Matt Mattia (color) announcing and can be heard on 1520 AM and the Varsity Network with Vinnie Christiano III on the call.
This is the 36th overall meeting between Buffalo and Western Michigan with the Bulls owning a 20-15 series advantage. The Bulls fell to the Broncos in Kalamazoo on January 3rd.
Buffalo fought to the end but ultimately came up short in a 73-63 loss at Eastern Michigan on Saturday afternoon. Three Bulls scored in double figures, led by Meg Lucas who recorded a career-high 22 points to go with 12 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season. Fellow freshman Aniya Rowe scored 11 and Gabby McDuffie added 10.
Rowe leads the Bulls offensively, averaging 13.3 points per game. She has scored in double figures 16 times and leads UB in three-point field goal percentage (.344), assists (86) and minutes played (30.8) while also ranking seventh in the league in steals per contest (2.0). Lucas is tied for first in the MAC and ranks 26th nationally in rebounding (10.1 rpg). The Bulls are second the MAC and rank 41st in the nation in offensive rebounds per game (14.3). UB has started four freshmen in eight straight games and has started three rookies 14 times. They are one of two teams in the MAC to have a rookie leading them in minutes played.
Western Michigan is 8-17 overall and 4-10 in league play after defeating Northern Illinois 65-60 on Saturday. The Broncos are led offensively by Kailey Starks who is averaging 12.8 points per game. Alli Carlson (10.0 ppg, 4.6 apg), D'Ahna Richardson (8.3 ppg) and D'Myjah Bolds (7.6 ppg, 5.1 rpg) are also main contributors. Individually, Carlson is second in the MAC and eighth nationally in minutes played (36.5) and is sixth in the MAC in assists per game (4.6) while Bolds is seventh in blocks per game (0.9).
In MAC play, Western Michigan ranks fourth in scoring defense (64.2) and fifth in three-pointers made per game (7.0). They have made 10 triples four times in league action.
