BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's basketball team travels to Oxford to take on the Miami (OH) RedHawks on Wednesday at 7pm.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Steve Baker (play-by-play) and Carol Smith (color) announcing and can be heard on 1520 AM and the Varsity Network with Vinnie Christiano III on the call.
This is the 53rd overall meeting between Buffalo and Miami (OH) with the Bulls owning a 31-21 overall record. The Bulls have won 18 of the last 19 meetings, including both matchups a season ago.
Buffalo put forth a valiant effort in the second half, but the comeback fell short in a 79-67 loss to Massachusetts at Alumni Arena on Saturday afternoon. Redshirt freshman guard Aniya Rowe led the Bulls in scoring for the fourth straight game as she scored a game-high 19 points to go with six rebounds and six assists. Fellow freshman Meg Lucas also shined, narrowly missing out on a double-double with 17 points, on an efficient 54% shooting, to go with nine rebounds and junior guard Paula Lopez also made her mark with nine points, five rebounds and six assists.
Rowe leads the Bulls offensively, averaging 11.1 points per game. She has scored in double figures eight times and leads UB in three-point field goal percentage (.373) while also ranking eighth in the league in steals per contest (2.0). Lucas leads the league and ranks 20th nationally in rebounding (10.3 rpg). As a team, Buffalo leads the MAC and ranks in the top 30 nationally in offensive rebounds per game (15.1). UB is the only team in the conference to have three freshmen averaging 25+ minutes per game and are one of just two teams to have a rookie leading the squad in minutes played.
Miami (OH) is 14-4 overall and 7-0 in league play after defeating/falling at Bowling Green 51-49 on Saturday. The RedHawks are balanced offensively with four players averaging in double figures, led by Preseason All-MAC selection Amber Tretter who is averaging just under a double-double with 13.9 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. Ambr Scalia (13.5 ppg), Ilse de Vries (11.6 ppg) and Tamar Singer (10.0 ppg) are also averaging in double figures. Individually, Singer leads the MAC and ranks third in the nation in assists per game (7.7) while also ranking third in the league in steals (45).
As a team, Miami leads the MAC in scoring defense (58.6), turnover margin (+5.4) and turnovers forced per game (21.6). Additionally, they rank second in the MAC in free throw percentage (.771), field goal percentage (.450), assists per game (17.2), scoring margin (+12.1), three-point percentage (.339), threes made per game (8.3) and steals per game (11.1).
