Women’s Basketball Travels to Western Michigan on Saturday

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's basketball team continues Mid-American Conference play on Saturday afternoon at Western Michigan.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Evan Stockton (play-by-play) and Lexi Ayala (color) announcing and can be heard on AM 1400 and the Varsity Network with Vinnie Christiano III on the call.
This is the 35th overall meeting between Buffalo and Western Michigan with the Bulls owning a 24-10 series advantage. The Bulls defeated the Broncos in both matchups a season ago.
Buffalo fell 79-46 at Toledo in their MAC opener on Wednesday afternoon. Redshirt freshman guard Aniya Rowe led the Bulls with eight points and fellow freshman Diann Jackson scored seven. Freshman forward Meg Lucas and junior guard Janyah Bohanon added six points and five rebounds each.
Junior guard Paula Lopez leads the Bulls in scoring at 11.0 points per game. She has scored in double figures seven times and is second in the MAC in field goal attempts (154) while ranking ninth in field goals made (51). Lucas leads the league and ranks 20th nationally in rebounding (10.3 rpg). As a team, Buffalo leads the MAC and ranks in the top 15 nationally in offensive rebounds per game (16.4) while also leading the league in three-point field goal defense (.262). UB is the only team in the conference to have three freshmen averaging 24+ minutes per game and are one of just two teams to have a rookie leading the squad in minutes played.
Western Michigan is 3-8 overall and 0-1 in league play after falling to Massachusetts on Saturday. They have just 10 active players on the roster, including four returners while adding three freshmen and four transfers. Kailey Starks leads the Broncos offensively, averaging 10.0 points per game. Alli Carlson is adding 8.5 points per contest while ranking fifth in the MAC in assists per game (4.6) and Ariana Wilkes leads the team in rebounding (6.2 rpg). The Broncos are fifth in the MAC in 3FG defense (.298) while ranking sixth in three-pointers made (6.3) and attempted (23.3) per game.
Up next, Buffalo will return to the friendly confines of Alumni Arena for a two-game homestand beginning on Wednesday, January 7 when they host Northern Illinois at 6pm.
