Bulls to Face Duquesne and Robert Morris to Close Non-Conference Play

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (3-4, 0-0 MAC) will hit the road for a pair of matches in the Pittsburgh, Pa. district this weekend. Buffalo will face the Duquesne Dukes (7-2, 0-0 Atlantic 10) on Friday at 6 p.m. followed by the Robert Morris Colonials on Saturday at 5 p.m. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
The Bulls hosted the Buffalo Classic last weekend where the Bulls went 1-2. They fell to the Northwestern Wilcats in a thrilling five set match (26-28, 25-14, 11-25, 25-20, 15-13) to open competition. UB beat Big 4 rival Niagara on Saturday in straight sets (25-18, 25-23, 25-21), but lost to Cornell in the final match of the weekend (22-25, 23-25, 25-21, 13-25).
Duquesne leads the all-time series against the Bulls, 7-4. The Bulls won the last meeting on Sept. 10, 2021, in a sweep. The Dukes are off to a great start of the season as they're one of the best offensive teams in the country. They are third in the NCAA in both kills per set and assists per set with 14.89 and 13.89, respectively.
Against the Robert Morris Colonials, the Bulls are 13-1. However, the Colonials won the last meeting on Sept. 2, 2016. Robert Morris is off to a slow start as they only have wins over FDU and UMES. Defensively, they are averaging 15.12 digs per set which is 66th in the nation.
ABOUT THE BULLS
• Junior Manoela Forlin is the only Bull to have 10+ kills in every match of the season thus far. This included a season-high 18 kills against Marist.
• Preseason All-MAC honoree Manoela Forlin is averaging a team-best 4.31 points per set. This is good for fifth in the MAC and 96th in the NCAA. She had a career-high five aces against Marist last weekend.
• The Bulls currently have the second-best hitting percentage in the MAC at .238, good for 31st in the nation.
• The freshmen trio of Maddie Mitchell, Sydney Bell and Emerson Matthews have accounted for 47.3% of the team's kill total with 161 of the 340. They have a combined .224 hitting percentage on the season.
• The Bulls are 9-1 in sets where they reach 15 first, but are 3-14 when the opposition gets to 15 first.
• The Bulls are 61st in the nation averaging 1.81 aces per set this season. This mark is good for third in the MAC.
