Bulls Fall to Cornell to Close Weekend

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Buffalo Bulls volleyball team (3-4, 0-0 MAC) lost to Cornell (4-3, 0-0 Ivy League) in the final match of the Buffalo Classic, 22-25, 23-25, 25-21, 13-25.
Buffalo's Manoela Forlin and Emerson Matthews led the team with 15 kills apiece. Forlin finished with a team-high .344 hitting percentage Forlin has now had at least 10 kills in every match this season. Sydney Bell added seven kills.
Maddie Mitchell put up 36 assists of the Bulls' 42.
Keira Kleidon finished with 14 digs.
Cornell outhit the Bulls, .379 to .220. At the net, the Big Red bested the Bulls as they finished with 10 blocks to UB's six.
SET 1
The Bulls fell in to an early hole at 4-1, but clawed back to take a 6-5 lead. UB increased the lead to 10-5 as Matthews had three kills in that span. Leading 17-14, Cornell more than doubled up on points as they outscored UB 11-5 to close the set.
SET 2
Although Cornell outhit the Bulls, .333 to .156, they won the set, 25-23. On the attack, Buffalo had eight errors. The Bulls held another late lead at 22-20, but couldn't hang on.
SET 3
The Bulls bounced back as they hit .312 tallying 15 kills. After going up 11-7, the Bulls never trailed as they came out with a 25-21 win. Both Forlin and Matthews had four kills.
SET 4
It was all Cornell in the eventual final set of the day as they won. 25-13. Buffalo couldn't slow down the Big Red offense as they hit .571 with just one attack error.
