BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo senior defender Ellie Simmons and graduate student defender Frederique St.-Jean have been named to the United Soccer Coaches (USC) Defenders to Watch list, as announced by the organization on Tuesday morning.
The lists are compiled and released by the Division I All-America Committees to promote college soccer leading up to the official start date for the regular season later this month. The lists include United Soccer Coaches All-Americans and All-Region players from 2024 who are scheduled to return for the 2025 season.
Simmons was named to the All-MAC Second Team and received Fourth-Team All-Region honor after starting all 20 games for the Bulls as a junior, recording two goals and an assist. Off the pitch, she earned Academic All-MAC honors for the first time in her career.
St.-Jean was named to the All-MAC First Team and received Second-Team All-Region honors in her first season in the blue and white. She rarely came off the field for the Bulls, starting 19 games and playing all but 119 minutes, making her impact known on both ends of the field as she added a goal and two assists.
Both were part of a standout backline that that led the league and ranks in the top 20 nationally in goals against average (.70) save percentage (.848) and shutout percentage (.550)
Simmons and St.-Jean join teammate Lexie Thompson on the lists of players receiving USC preseason honors as Thompson was named to the Goalkeepers to Watch list last week.
The Bulls open the 2025 season at crosstown rival Canisius on Thursday, August 14 at 6pm.
