Bulls Shine at Ohio State Jesse Owens Classic Despite Weather Delays

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The University at Buffalo track and field program competed at Ohio State's Jesse Owens Classic on Friday and Saturday. The team's final outdoor meet of the regular season came with several weather delays, but the Bulls found a way to shine despite the cloudy skies.
FRIDAY
The first day of the meet featured three lightning delays that halted the competition for several hours. The Bulls posted four personal records and two new UB outdoor top-10 performances.
Linnea Neureuther and Gemma Galligani headlined day one for the Bulls, posting personal records in the 400-meter hurdles. Neureuther remained fifth on the all-time UB outdoor leaderboard with her new personal best of 1:01.14. Galligani joined the ranks to take the 10th spot with a time of 1:02.30.
Despite several hours of delays, Luke Stoeffler and Rachel Hirschkind had personal record performances in the 5,000-meter.
Hirschkind's time of 17:17.62 was within two seconds of reaching the all-time UB outdoor top ten (17:13.69). The graduate transfer placed 15th of 46 runners.
Stoeffler's time of 14:38.60 was a new outdoor personal best, taking 17th of 39 competitors. The junior's previous outdoor record in the event was 14:52.45. Stoeffler's new record was just over ten seconds shy of reaching the UB outdoor record book (14:27.35).
Loretta White placed 21st in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 49.05 meters. The sophomore was within half a meter of her personal record in the event (49.44m) and less than two meters shy of the UB outdoor record book (50.42m).
Stella Kapp finished 11th in the javelin throw with a mark of 33.57 meters. The freshman was less than two meters shy of her personal record of 35.43 meters.
The remainder of the field and track events were rescheduled to Saturday, where the Bulls continued the momentum into the morning.
SATURDAY
Kenneth Gulloso began day two for the Bulls on a strong note, setting a new personal best in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 55.09 meters to rise to seventh on the all-time UB outdoor leaderboard.
Kara Moran placed second of 23 competitors in the women's long with a mark of 5.78 meters. The sophomore was less than two-tenths of a meter shy of her outdoor personal record (5.95m) that ranks fifth in UB outdoor history. Shannon Schmieder (7th, 5.42m) and Isa van Puffelen (8th, 5.39m) also posted top 10 finishes in the event. Schmieder's jump was a new personal record.
On the men's side, Micah Blair finished second of 16 athletes with a jump of 6.94 meters. The freshman was less than two-tenths of a meter shy of his personal record of 7.10 meters. Blair doubled back to place fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.08 meters.
Neureuther continued her momentum into day two to win the women's triple jump. The freshman took first place with a mark of 12.05 meters. Amari Hall (8th, 11.37m) also earned a top 10 finish for the Bulls. Melissa Carden placed 13th with a personal record mark of 11.07 meters.
Allison Newton posted a new personal record time of 4:34.98 in the women's 1,500-meter. The junior just missed the all-time UB outdoor record book by less than half of a second (4:34.56). Bronagh Cassidy also competed for the Bulls, finishing with a time of 4:39.30, under two seconds shy of her personal record in the event (4:37.58).
On the men's side, Collin Stafford placed fifth with a time of 3:57.01. The freshman was less than two seconds shy of his personal record in the event (3:55.89). Vincent Guaresimo also earned a top-10 finish for the Bulls, placing 10th with a time of 4:01.15.
Zahra Amos took third in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.70 meters. The junior's third place was in a field of 16 athletes. Adriana Ellsworth also posted a top-10 finish too, placing ninth (1.65m). Calvin Finger (16th, 1.94m) and Ryan Cardichon (17th, 1.94m) also competed on the men's side.
Aiden Walker finished fourth in the discus throw with a mark of 50.93 meters. The junior posted a top-five finish in the field of 28 competitors. Walker also placed 14th in the shot put with a throw of 14.74 meters.

The Bulls will next head to Athens, Ohio to compete in the 2025 MAC Outdoor Championships on the Ohio University campus from Thursday, May 15th through Saturday, May 17th. All information for the conference championships can be found here.
