KALAMAZOO, MI – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team (18-5) defeated Western Michigan 6-1 at the West Hills Athletic Club on Friday afternoon. With the win, the Bulls improve to 5-3 in league play.
After dropping the doubles point, the Bulls pulled off an impressive sweep in singles action, as Esmee Andresen cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win at first singles and Maria Glowacka followed with a straight sets victory of her own, 6-3, 6-3, at the second position. Later, Blanca Berges picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win at fifth singles to put UB up 3-1.
Sophomore Julia Laspro then clinched the match for UB with a 6-1, 5-7, 6-1 victory at fourth singles while Jagmeet Kaur battled to a three-set victory, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6, at third singles and Liv Roestel rounded out the scoring with a hard-fought 7-6, 4-6, 16-14 win at six singles.
"The resiliency and determination that this team showed after a tough start to the match was nothing short of incredible against a very good Western Michigan team," said head coach Kristen Maines. "Super proud of their effort and excited for Sunday."
Up next, Buffalo will close out the weekend at Northern Illinois on Sunday, April 13 at 12pm (EDT).
