BUFFALO, NY – Four University at Buffalo women's soccer student-athletes were named to United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region teams, as announced by the organization on Tuesday. Graduate student Frederique St.-Jean earned second team honors, while Lexie Thompson received third team recognition and Ellie Simmons and Kaya Schultz were named to the fourth team.
"We are really proud of these four and the outstanding season they had," said head coach Shawn Burke. "They helped reset the standard this fall as we continue to showcase our program on the national stage.
St.-Jean earns All-Region recognition for the first time in her career after also being named to the All-MAC First Team in her first season in the blue and white. The Toronto, Ontario native rarely came off the field for the Bulls this season as she played all but 29 minutes, making her impact known on both ends of the field. Starting in 19 games for the Bulls, St.-Jean was a major factor on set pieces, recording the game-winning goal at Akron and two assists. She was also an anchor of a standout backline that led the league and ranked in the top 20 nationally in goals against average (.70) save percentage (.848) and shutout percentage (.550).
Thompson earns All-Region honors for the first time in her career after becoming just the second Bull to earn Goalkeeper of the Year honors, while also receiving All-MAC First Team recognition for the first time in her young UB career. The Levittown, NY native put together an impressive resume on the season as she led the MAC and ranked in the top 25 in the nation in shutouts (11), goals against average (0.70) and save percentage (.841), while also recording 74 saves. Her 11 shutouts rank third in a single-season in program history.
Schultz earns also earns All-Region recognition for the first time in her career after receiving All-MAC Second-Team honors earlier this fall. She appeared in 71 games, earning 57 starts across a decorated UB career. The West Orange, NJ native was a chameleon of sorts for the Bulls this season as she was often asked to wear many hats, fit into many different roles throughout the season and was consistently looked to by the coaching staff as the solution to any tactical problem. She started 17 games for the Bulls this season, recording a goal and four assists while also serving as the anchor for a dangerous midfield attack.
Simmons earns All-Region recognition for the second time in her career after also earning All-MAC Second Team honors earlier this fall. The Arlington, VA native started all 20 games for the Bulls this season and was an impact on both ends of the field, including on set pieces, scoring two goals and adding an assist. She was also part of a standout backline that led the league and ranks in the top 20 nationally in goals against average (.70) save percentage (.848) and shutout percentage (.550).
