Bulls Travel to Athens For Battle with Bobcats on Wednesday

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's basketball team (10-7, 4-3 MAC) closes out the month of January in Athens for a clash with the Ohio Bobcats on Wednesday night.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Sam Hyman (play-by-play) and Kate Cummings (color) announcing and can be heard on the radio on 1520 AM or on the Varsity Network with Jack Kreuzer on the call.
This is the 49th overall meeting between Buffalo and Ohio with the Rockets owning a 27-21 series advantage. The Bulls defeated the Bobcats in Athens in the lone meeting of the season a year ago.
Despite a herculean effort from Chellia Watson, Buffalo dropped a heartbreaker, 67-63 at Toledo, on Saturday night at Savage Arena. Watson, who scored her 1,000th career point on a free throw in the second quarter, finished with 47 points which sets a new school and program record. The 47 points was also the most points scored by any player in Savage Arena history, besting the previous mark of 45 set by Ron Harper (Miami OH) on March 8, 1985.
Watson, a three-time MAC Player of the Week, leads the league and ranks third in the nation in scoring at 24.69 points per game to go with 4.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists per contest. She also ranks in the top five nationally in field goals made (178) and field goals made per game (9.9). Freshman Kirsten Lewis-Williams currently ranks 11th in the MAC in scoring (11.7 ppg) and 10th in rebounding (6.2 rpg), which is first among all rookies in the league in both categories. Senior Rana Elhusseini (8.9 ppg, 4.9 rpg) and sophomore Hattie Ogden (7.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg) continue to be impact players for UB while Alexis Davis is second on the team in rebounding (5.8 rpg).
As a team, Buffalo is ranked in the top four in the MAC in scoring offense (67.2), scoring defense (64.1), field goal percentage (.424), field goal defense (.388), three-point field goal percentage (.323) and 3FG defense (.295). The Bulls are averaging 33.4 points per game in the paint while also turning defense into offense, averaging 15 points per contest off opponent's turnovers.
The Ohio Bobcats are 7-11 overall and 4-4 in league action after defeating Miami (OH) 71-55 on Saturday. The Bobcats are led offensively by Jaya McClure who is averaging 12.6 points and 3.3 assists per game. Kennedy Watkins (10.8 ppg, 4.1 rpg) is also averaging in double figures while Monica Williams (8.7 ppg) and Bailey Tabeling (8.7 ppg) are also main contributors. McClure leads the team in assists and has recorded seven double figure scoring games this season. Tabeling leads the MAC in three-point field goal percentage (.486) and owns the top single-game performance for 3FGs made so far this season with seven against Syracuse.
The Bobcats lead the MAC in total steals (203) and steals per game (11.2) while also ranking in the top five in total three-pointers made (127), 3FG made per game (7.1) and turnover margin (+2.4).
