Benussi and Gabalski Set Personal Records at Kent State Doug Raymond National Qualifier

KENT, OHIO – The University at Buffalo track and field team had combined events athletes compete in the Kent State Doug Raymond National Qualifier on Friday and Saturday, with Scilla Benussi winning the women's pentathlon and Kevin Gabalski placing second in the men's heptathlon.
Benussi's 3,936 point performance was a new personal record for senior, ranking second all-time in UB indoor history.
Benussi started the pentathlon with a fourth-place finish in the 60 meter hurdles and a time of 8.92. The senior continued her momentum in the high jump, placing second (1.67m). Benussi then took first place in the shot put with a throw of 12.57m, and third in the long jump (5.60m). The senior ended her performance on Friday with another first place finish, completing the 800 meter run with a time of 2:24.56.
On the men's side, Gabalski also had a strong performance in the men's heptathlon, setting a new personal record with 4,998 points, ranking fifth all-time in UB indoor history.
The junior opened the weekend with a third-place finish in the 60 meter dash (7.22) and a second place finish in the long jump (6.79). Gabalski earned another podium finish in the shot put with a throw of 11.75m, followed by a fifth-place finish in the high jump (1.77m). The senior opened Saturday with a second-place finish in the 60 meter hurdles (8.37) and then a third place finish in the long jump (4.10m). Gabalski ended the heptathlon taking fourth in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:56.20.
Noah Ruffer (5th, 4,200) and Brady Hughes (7th, 3,983) also earned top ten finishes in the men's heptathlon.
