Bulls Take Game Two Against Huskies on Senior Day

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo softball team (12-34, 6-16 MAC) split their doubleheader against the Northern Illinois Huskies (23-24, 12-12 MAC) on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies won game one of the series, 3-2. The Bulls bounced back to take the second game of the day, 4-2.
GAME 1 RECAP
Northern Illinois jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single. The Bulls tied the game at one with a Mia Mitchell solo home run to center in the second inning.
The Huskies took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning on a double to right field. In the sixth inning, Northern Illinois padded their lead on a trick play. With runners on the corners, the runner on first got in a pickle to allow the run to score. Down 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth, Mitchell stayed hot as she doubled to left allowing Alexis Lucyshyn to score.
Buffalo held the Huskies scoreless in the seventh to keep it a 3-2 game in the bottom half of the inning. Lyla Ambrose hit a leadoff double which led to a sacrifice bunt to move her over to second courtesy of Sara Kelly. The Bulls couldn't tie the game as the Huskies got out of the jam.
Lucyshyn threw seven innings, striking out six batters and allowed three runs on seven hits.
GAME 2 RECAP
The Bulls bounced back as they had a thunderous first inning. Brianna Castro singled to the shortstop followed by Lucyshyn to single up the middle. Abbey Nagel doubled to left center allowing Castro to score and Lucyshyn to get to third. Mitchell had a day as she knocked in two more RBIs for the Bulls. Up 3-0 and with just one out, the Huskies changed pitchers. It didn't matter as Lyla Ambrose hit Mitchell in to give the Bulls a 4-0 lead.
The Huskies got on the board in the third inning on an RBI single. They added to their total in the fourth inning with a runner stealing second, the runner on third was able to score.
The Bulls shutdown any chance the Huskies had in a comeback as Buffalo won, 4-2.
Julia Tarantino threw a complete game, allowing two runs on seven hits. She struck out six on the afternoon.
Buffalo and Northern Illinois will close out their series tomorrow at noon. The Bulls will wrap up their season next weekend in Athens, Ohio as they battle the Ohio Bobcats.
