Bulls Drop Saturday Double Header at Red Raider Classic

LUBBOCK, Texas – The University at Buffalo softball team (5-16, 0-0 MAC) dropped both their games on day two of the Red Raider Classic on Saturday. This marked the third time the Bulls played New Mexico this season.
The Bulls were able to get the bats going on day two of the Red Raider Classic as they combined for 14 hits in two games.
In the first game against New Mexico (12-13, 0-0 MW), the Lobos came out on top with a 4-1 victory. New Mexico got on the offensive attack early as they went up 1-0 in the top of the first. The Bulls tied the game with an RBI single courtesy from Julia Tarantino. Sara Kelly score for the Bulls.
There would be a dry spell as no runs were scored until the Lobos hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning, taking a 4-1 lead. That was all they needed as they shut down the Bulls the rest of the way.
Alexis Lucyshyn led the team with two hits, as Abbey Nagel, Madison Fernimen, Sara Kelly, and Julia Tarantino each had one.
Buffalo was right back at it for their second game of the day as they faced Manhattan (3-9, 0-0 MAAC). It was a pair of solo home runs that game the Bulls a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Abbey Nagel and Alexis Lucyshyn went yard over center field as it was the Bulls that got the scoring attack early.
The Jaspers tied the game at two in the fifth inning with an RBI double to right field and a double to the right center gap. In the bottom of the sixth, Brianna Castro had a leadoff single as Avelyn Van Heyst pinch ran for her. She then stole second base to get into scoring position. The Bulls couldn't muster timely hits as she was stranded on second as the inning ended.
The Jaspers capitalized in the top of the seventh with a two-run home run, taking a 4-2 lead. Nagel doubled with two outs in the bottom half of the inning, but Manhattan got out of the jam to take the game, 4-2.
The Bulls are back in action tomorrow as they wrap up their competition at 10:30 a.m. ET against Manhattan.
