Bulls Defeat Manhattan to Close Out Red Raider Classic

LUBBOCK, Texas – The University at Buffalo softball team (6-16, 0-0 MAC) won their final game at the Red Raider Classic on Sunday against the Manhattan Jaspers (3-11, 0-0 MAAC), 6-3. This marked the last tournament before MAC play opens next weekend against Western Michigan.
The Bulls finished the tournament with a win after losing the first four games in Lubbock. Despite only having # hits on the day, they were timely hits for Buffalo. The Bulls got on the board in the second inning as Kate Vara singled to center. Sara Kelly rounded the bases to give the Bulls a 1-0 lead.
Kelly returned the favor she had a two-RBI double in the fifth inning, scoring Alexis Lucyshyn and Abbey Nagel. Madison Fernimen then had a sacrifice fly to allow Lily Lauck to score. The Bulls were then up 4-0 headed to the bottom of the fifth.
Emily Watters gave up one run in the fifth, but the Bull still held a 4-1 lead after five.
The Bulls added two insurance runs in the seventh inning as Lucyshyn went yard.
The Jaspers made it an interesting game as they scored two more in the seventh with one out. With a runner in scoring position, they couldn't hit her in as the Bulls would go on to win, 6-3.
Emily Watters threw a complete game allowing two earned runs and striking out five.
The Bulls are back in action on Friday, March 17 in Kalamazoo, Mich. as they face off against the Western Michigan Broncos for a three-game series.
