
Surdej Wins Shot Put Title as Bulls Wrap Up Day Two of MAC Championships

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The University at Buffalo men's and women's track and field teams concluded day two of the MAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday. The Bulls ended the final day of the championships with an individual MAC champion and several podium finishes.
ON THE MEN'S SIDE
Jonathan Surdej won his third consecutive Indoor MAC shot put title with a throw of 56'5.75"/17.21 meters. Teammates Mark Przybocki and Quinn Smith finished in fourth and sixth, respectively, with throws of 54'1.75"/16.50 meters and 51'10"/15.80 meters.
In the men's heptathlon, Kevin Gabalski's score of 4982 earned him the bronze medal. Gabalski's score is the fifth-best heptathlon score in UB school history. Mike Wolford finished fourth with score of 4668 points. Calvin Finger earned the bronze medal in the men's high jump with a personal best mark of 6'6.75"/2.00 meters.
On the track, Michael Parks took fifth place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.03, good for fourth-best in program history. In the 60-meter dash, Jean Desir took fourth with a time of 6.91. Ryan Buzby claimed the bronze medal in the 3000-meter run in 8:12.73, just a second off the UB school record.
ON THE WOMEN'S SIDE
Following her gold medal in the women's long jump on Friday, Christina Wende earned silver in the triple jump with a score of 41'6"/12.65 meters. Teammates Kaylah Britt and Emily Tait placed seventh and eighth, respectively, with scores of 39'7.25"/12.07 meters and 39'1.75"/11.93 meters. Wende also placed sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.55.
Zaria Fuller tied for fourth in the high jump, clearing 5'7"/1.70 meters. The day concluded with the women's 4x400-meter relay, with the team of Allison Newton, Vassi Klock, Alyssa Rotondo, and Lauren O'Rourke finishing 10th with a season-best time of 4:07.73.
"Coming into the MAC Championships, we knew it would take personal best performances to earn scoring places and the battle for team scores would be tight for the women," stated Head Coach Vicki Mitchell. "We are on the cusp of breaking into the top 6 teams and need to continue to persevere with focus and determination heading into the outdoor season."
