Bulls Sweep Akron for First MAC Win of Season

AKRON, Ohio β The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (9-6, 1-2 MAC) defeated the Akron Zips (3-11, 0-3 MAC) on Wednesday evening. The Bulls earned their first conference win of the season.

The Bulls swept the Akron Zips in dominant fashion, 25-22, 25-16, 25-17.

UB had their most dominant performance of the season as they had an overall hitting percentage of .367. The Bulls held the Zips to just .158 on attacks. In order, UB finished with .474, .324, and .310 hitting percentages. In the second and third sets, UB only gave up 20 total kills while holding Akron to hitting percentages of .053 and .065, in those sets.

The Bulls spread the wealth with kills as Cali Assaley, Stacia Gollogly, and Abby Leigh finished in double figures. UB only had eight attack errors as the Zips finished with 19.

Setting specialist Mandy Leigh finished with 35 assists. She is now up to 435 assists on the season averaging 10.61 per set.

Defensively, the Bulls came up huge at the net. UB edged Akron 11-2 in blocks. A. Leigh led the way with eight as Gollogly had five, and M. Leigh had three.

The Bulls are back in action on Friday, Sept. 30 as they host Northern Illinois at 6 p.m. in Alumni Arena.
