Bulls Fall to NIU in Friday Night Clash

BUFFALO, N.Y. β The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (9-7, 1-3 MAC) fell to the Northern Illinois Huskies (11-3, 4-0 MAC) on Friday evening.

The Bulls dropped the match in straight sets, 20-25, 21-25, 18-25.

UB gave the Huskies a run for their money in every set. The Bulls crawled back in the first set to make it 20-23 and in the second set they made it a 21-23 game. UB could not come back in the third set as they saw themselves at an 1-8 deficit.

Offensively, both teams struggled as Northern Illinois finished with an overall hitting percentage of .175. The Bulls wrapped up the night with just a .054 hitting percentage. Cali Assaley led the Bulls with nine kills, Katrin Trebichavska had eight, and Courtney Okwara finished with seven. UB had 26 attack errors on the night as Northern Illinois accumulated 17.

Despite the lack of offense, Mandy Leigh added 23 set assists to her total.

At the net, the Bulls came up strong finishing with 8.0 blocks. Both Okwara and Abby Leigh had a solo block and three block assists on the night.

The Bulls are back in action on tomorrow at 1 p.m. as they look for revenge against the Huskies in Alumni Arena. Catch the action before the football team plays Miami (OH) at 3:30 p.m.
