
Bulls Split Doubleheader at FGCU Invite

FORT MYERS, Fla. βΒ The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (8-3, 0-0 MAC) split their doubleheader on Friday at the FGCU Homewood Suites Invitational.
To start the tournament, the Bulls came out victorious as they swept the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers (6-7, 0-0 NEC), 25-13, 25-20, 25-18. The Bulls outhit the Terriers, .282 to .170.
The Bulls dominated the first set, 25-13, as UB hadΒ 15 kills to St.Β Francis Brooklyn's eight. In a tight second set, the Bulls finished the set on a 5-0 run. The Bulls held the Terriers to a hit percentage of .103 for the set. To close out the match, UB scored seven of the last eight points.
The Bulls rank 39th in the NCAA in aces with 1.97 per set, they lived up to that stat as they had seven against St. Francis Brooklyn. The Terriers finished with one. Emilie Davis (2), Katrin Trebichavska (2), and Emma Puzausky (1) gave the Bulls their aces.
The leading setter for the match was Puzausky as she finished the match with 29. Emma Gielas and Abby Leigh led the way with 12 and 10 kills, respectively.
Defensively, Trabichavska led the Bulls with 13 digs. Hayley Montoya added eight as Puzausky had five. A. Leigh and Trebichavska led the team with three blocks each with Courtney Okwara adding one.Β
Later on Friday evening, UB fell to host Florida Gulf Coast (8-3, 0-0 A-Sun) in four sets, 22-25, 32-30, 22-25, 25-17.
The Bulls were battle tested in the match. Both teams had to dig deep to win the second set as it would be the lone set the Bulls won, 32-30.Β
Once again, the Bulls capitalized on serves as they had none aces. Puzausky led the way with three as Trebichavska added two.Β
Trebachavska finished the match with 16 kills and 17 digs. Okwara had another solid performance as she had 12 kills and six blocks.Β
Puzausky notched 44 set assists in the match as UB had an attack percentage of .166.Β
The Bulls are back in actionΒ tomorrow at 1 p.m.Β as the team faces the Florida Atlantic Owls (9-1, 0-0 C-USA).
