Volleyball Travels for Lehigh Steel Tournament

BUFFALO, N.Y. β The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (2-1, 0-0 MAC) will travel to Bethlehem, Pa. for the Lehigh Steel Tournament. UB will face the Rider Broncs (0-3, 0-0 MAAC), the Lehigh Mountain Hawks (3-0, 0-0 Patriot), and a familiar foe in Cleveland State (0-3, 0-0 Horizon).

The Bulls face open the tournament against Rider at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 2 with another match that night against host Lehigh at 7:30 p.m. The later match will be streamed on ESPN+. The team will wrap up their competition a noon on Saturday against Cleveland State. The Bulls defeated the Vikings at the UB Invite, 3-1 (25-23, 15-25, 25-15, 25-22). Β

UB is looking for their best start since 2018 when they began the season 4-0.

After the opening weekend of the season, Sophomore setter Mandy Leigh was named MAC East Setter of the Week. She currently ranks 16th in Division I in total assists as she has racked up 133 in 13 sets. Katrin Trebishavska ranks ninth in total service aces with nine, good for first in the MAC.

Rider has had a tough start to their season as they have won only one set in their three matches thus far. Against No. 10 BYU, they struggled to score against the nationally ranked Cougars. They would fall in straight sets to Washington State but win a set against Duke to close out the Doterra Classic in Provo, Utah.

Lehigh has started the season strong as they have yet to drop a set this season. They swept Mercer, Alabama A&M, and Florida Atlantic at the FAU Invitational.

The Bulls will face Cleveland State once again. The Vikings battled in every match at the UB Invite as they took the invite champion Xavier to five sets. Cleveland State lost to the University of Alabama at Birmingham in five sets and eventually lost to the Bulls in four sets.

The only match that will be streamed for the Bulls will be against Lehigh. That action can be found on ESPN+.
