Bulls Come Out Victorious to Open the 2022 Season

BUFFALO, N.Y. β The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (1-0, 0-0 MAC) came out victorious in their first match on the 2022 season at the UB Invite.

With a great crowd on hand, UB took the contest 15-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-21 as the Bulls outhit the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Blazers, .284 to .200.

After dropping the first set, the Bulls battled back as they took the second set, 25-16. Abbey Leigh led the way with four kills as Emma Gielas added three. The Bulls would hold the Blazers to single digits for a while as UB led 18-9 before closing out the set.

The third set would be UB's most dominant as they showed some muscle. The Bulls outhit UAB .459 to .250. Gielas, Cali Assaley, and Stacia Gollogly would combine for four blocks in the set, compared to UAB's zero.

In a back and forth fourth set, UB kept battling as there were six lead changes and 12 ties. Katrin Trebichavska had five kills in the set with Gielas, Geology, and Assaley with three apiece.

Katrin Trebichaska's powerful serve added two aces for the Bulls. Gielas finished with a hit percentage of .478 with 15 kills and just four errors on 23 attempts.

Defensively, Hayley Montoya had 19 digs, while Jenna Sonnenberg and Trebichaska each added 10. The Bulls finished with 12.0 blocks and an astounding 45 assists from Mandy Leigh.

The Bulls return to action tomorrow afternoon as they host Xavier at 2 p.m. and Cleveland State at 6 p.m. to close out the UB Invite. Tomorrow's action can be found on YouTube.
