
Bulls Defeat Western Michigan For Second Straight Victory

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team defeated Western Michigan 5-2 on Friday afternoon as the Bulls picked up their second straight Mid-American Conference victory. Buffalo is now 14-6 on the year and 3-3 in league play.
The Bulls started with a victory in doubles. After falling at first doubles, the second doubles team of Ambre Amat and Lolina Scheitekat Sedas won 6-4. The Bulls claimed the doubles point with a tie-breaking victory at three. Nikoleta Antoniou-Karademitrou and Gabriella Akopyan won 7-6 (3), giving UB the 1-0 lead.
In singles action, three of the six matches went into three sets. UB took a 2-0 lead in the match with a win at fifth singles as Azra Deniz Comlek dropped just three games in a 6-1, 6-2 win. The Broncos got on the board with a win at sixth singles, but the Bulls inched closer to victory as Pia Schwarz won at second singles, 6-3, 7-5.
The final three matches all went to three sets with UB needing just one to claim the win. At fourth singles, Amat won her opening set 6-3 before dropping the second set 6-3. In the third, she dominated with a 6-1 win to clinch the match.
Akopyan overcame a loss in the first set at third singles as she won 4-6, 6-4, 10-3. The Broncos claimed the final match at first singles.
The Bulls return to action on Sunday afternoon at Eastern Michigan.
