Bulls Win Friday Night MACtion at Miami (OH) for Fifth Straight Win

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (16-10, 8-6 MAC) defeated the Miami (OH) RedHawks (6-19, 1-13 MAC) on Friday evening. The Bulls beat the RedHawks in four sets, 19-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-17. UB improved to 8-6 in conference play as they inch closer to a spot in the MAC Tournament.
In total, there were 10 ties and six lead changes.
Overall, the Bulls had seven service aces, courtesy of Maria Futey (3), Emma Gielas (2), Katrin Trebichavska (1), and Mandy Leigh (1). Libero Futey finished with a match-high 19 digs on the evening. Gielas led the match finishing with 15.5 points. Gielas (12) and Trebichavska (10) were the only Bulls to finish with double digit kills.
The Bulls were slow out of the gate as they dropped the first set, 19-25. UB had eight attack errors while only having an overall hitting percentage of .108 in the set.
In the second set, UB called a timeout down 12-15. That timeout would rally the Bulls as they'd close the set on a 13-4 run. Miami had four straight attack errors directly after UB's timeout. M. Leigh had a service ace on the next point causing the RedHawks to call a timeout with the Bulls up 17-15. Trebichavska and M. Leigh each had four kills in the set.
In the third set, the Bulls outhit the RedHawks, .194 to .103. Emma Gielas had five kills in the set with Cali Assaley adding four. When the RedHawks led 2-0, that was the only point in the set the Bulls trailed in the set.
The Bulls bounced dominated the fourth set as they had a hit rate of .312 compared to Miami's .114. Both Stacia Gollogly and Courtney Okwara had five kills for UB. Gollogly was huge at the net as she had one solo block and four block assists.
Reigning MAC East Setter of the Week M. Leigh closed out the evening with 38 assists while adding seven kills.
The Bulls are back in action tomorrow at 5 p.m. in a rematch against the RedHawks. Catch the action on ESPN+.
