Bulls Defeat Miami (OH) to Continue Win Streak

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (17-10, 9-6 MAC) defeated the Miami (OH) RedHawks (6-20, 1-14 MAC) on Saturday evening for their sixth straight win. Their win is now the second longest in the MAC behind Ball State (13). The Bulls beat the RedHawks in straight sets, 25-21, 25-14, 25-18.
UB improved to 9-6 in conference play as they are now tied with Central Michigan and Toledo for fourth place in the MAC. The Bulls hold the head-to-head tie breaker against Central Michigan as they defeated them last week.
In total, there were six ties and two lead changes.
Overall, the Bulls had six service aces, with Katrin Trebichavska adding three to her season total. Courtney Okwara added two as Mandy Leigh had one. Both Maria Futey and Trebichavska finished with 11 kills each.
The Bulls held the RedHawks to an overall attack percentage of .099, while forcing 20 attack errors. UB finished with a .257 overall attack percentage.
Buffalo took the first set, 25-21, the closest set of the evening. The Redhawks had 17 kills compared to the Bulls' 12, but Miami (OH) ended the set with seven attack errors. Stacia Gollogly started where she left off last night as she racked up six kills in the set.
In the second set, Miami (OH) was forced to use both of their timeouts within five points with the Bulls starting to run away with the contest. Buffalo hit .290 as the RedHawks hit .000 with six kills. Okwara led the Bulls with four of their 14 kills, as they spread the wealth on the offensive attack.
In the third set, the RedHawks didn't improve their hit percentage from the second set as it remained at .000. The Bulls hit .273 in the final set. Gollogly added five more kills with Lauren Otten, Trebichavska, and Okwara adding three each. Emma Gielas also had one.
Reigning MAC East Setter of the Week M. Leigh closed out the evening with 34 assists for an average of 11.33 per set.
The Bulls are back in action on Friday as they host Bowling Green (16-9, 11-3 MAC) at 6 p.m.
