BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's basketball team won its fourth straight game on Friday night as the Bulls held Kent State to just 33% shooting in a 64-51 victory at Alumni Arena. The win improves UB to 10-6 on the season and 4-2 in Mid-American Conference play.
Buffalo never trailed on Friday evening, leading nearly wire-to-wire as the score was tied just once at 2-2. Senior Jeenathan Williams began his spectacular night by scoring 11 points in a 17-4 first half run, extending the Buffalo lead to 27-13 with 8:32 left. The Bulls led by double figures for most of the opening half, taking a 34-24 lead into the break.
Kent State shot just 27.6% from the floor in the first half, including a 3-of-14 performance from the three-point line.
In the second half, Kent State cut the deficit to seven early, but the Bulls responded by scoring eight straight, capped off on a big three-pointer from David Skogman, extending the UB lead to 44-29, Buffalo's largest lead of the game.
The Bulls continued to lead by double figures for most of the second half, but the Golden Flashes would go on a late run, pulling within five with just 3:59 left. However, that would be Kent State's final field goal of the night as the Bulls ended the game on an 8-1 run with the dagger coming off a three-pointer from the top of the key from Williams with just under a minute left.
Williams led all players with 25 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and three steals as the senior went 9-of-14 from the field, including a perfect 4-for-4 from the three point line.
Ronaldo Segu added 15 points and five assists as he was the only other Buffalo player to finish in double figures. Skogman added nine points and six board as well as three steals.
Senior Keishawn Brewton had seven points, while Josh Mballa and Travon Fagan each finish with three. Mballa added seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and two steals, while Fagan had six boards. Brock Bertram finished with two points off a put back on an offensive rebound.
The 51 points allowed tonight were the fewest in a win to a Division I opponent since March 14, 2019, an 82-46 win over Akron. The 33% shooting was the lowest this year by a Buffalo opponent.
Over the last two games, UB opponents have shot just 8-of-46 (17.4%) from three point range and 40-of-117 (34.1%) overall.
UB will take it's four-game winning streak on the road Tuesday night as the Bulls head to league-leading Toledo. Tip off is set for 7pm.
