WILLIAMSBURG, VA. – The University at Buffalo track and field team wrapped up day one of the 55th Annual Colonial Relays at William and Mary on Friday evening. For many of the UB student-athletes, this was their first outdoor road trip as the 2020 season was canceled.
The UB jumpers made themselves known in the high jump. The women swept the top-three positions with Scilla Benussi, Antoinette Miller and Kelsey Shapiro finishing in that order. The men claimed the top-two places with Brandon Burke and Nakia Williams, Jr. having season-best marks.
Rachel Donner had an outdoor personal-best in the shot put of 43'-11.25" for second place. Freshman Imani Sinclair placed second in the hammer throw with a toss of 49.60-meters. Jonathan Surdej finished third in the men's shot put with 52'-07.25".
On the track, Priscilla Faa placed fourth out of 26 in the 100-meter dash with a new personal-best time of 12.14-seconds, as Jeremy Lissade had a seasons best time of 10.96-seconds good for third out of 21 runners. Rounding out personal bests was Patrick Hazlitt running 3:56.88 placing sixth of the 50-man field in the 1,500-meter run.
In the 5,000-meter run, Thomas Flannery finished in fourth with a time of 14:23.53. Flannery's time is now second all-time in UB outdoor history passing Zachary Ahart's 2015 time of 14:26.07. Ryan Buzby finished in ninth place in 14:32.49, his time is now fourth in the UB record books.
"Tomorrow will feature several more Bulls in both field and track events and we'll be looking to have several more personal records and event wins," stated Head Coach Vicki Mitchell.
