BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team will close out their unique 2021 spring season this weekend when the Bulls host league-leading Bowling Green for a pair of matches.
The Bulls enter the final weekend with a 4-16 record having won three of their last five matches. Most recently, UB is coming off a 3-1 win at Akron on Tuesday night where freshman Milla Malik had a team-high 23 kills and junior Kyndal Bacon finished with a personal best 56 assists. Sophomore Jenna Sonnenberg chipped in a career high 28 digs as all three fell just shy of UB school records for a four-set match.
Malik leads the Bulls at 3.83 kills per set which is 10th nationally amongst freshmen. Junior Monika Simkova ranks 19th nationally with 29 service aces, while Bacon is just outside of the top 40 in the nation with 629 assists.
The weekend will serve as the final home matches for Buffalo's lone senior Lexi Nordmann, who has played in 60 sets for the Bulls and is third on the team in kills. Nordmann paces Buffalo's blocking attack with 51.0 total blocks, averaging 0.85 per set.
Bowling Green is 18-1 entering Friday night's match with the Bulls. The Falcons had won their first 18 matches of the year before a five-set loss to Toledo on Tuesday night. BG has already clinched the MAC regular season title.
Friday's contest will begin at 6pm, while Saturday's season finale, which is Senior Day, will begin at 2pm. Both matches will air on ESPN+.
