Bulls Drop Series Opener to Northern Illinois, 3-1

BUFFALO, NY – Despite winning the opening set, the University at Buffalo women's volleyball team lost to Northern Illinois, 3-1, at Alumni Arena on Friday night. The Bulls won the first set, 25-23, before dropping the next three, 25-22, 25-19 and 25-20.

The Bulls rallied to win the first set after trailing, 21-14. UB outscored the Huskies, 10-2, and a kill by Lexi Nordmann gave UB a 24-23 lead. Milla Malik finished off the Huskies with a kill off the set of Courtney Okwara for the 25-23 victory.

The Bulls almost rallied to win the second set, but NIU was able to hold on for the 25-22 win. Despite strong starts by the Bulls, the Huskies were able to pull away in each of the final two sets.

Malik led the Bulls with 13 kills. Emma Gielas added 12 kills and Nordmann had 10. Kyndal Bacon had 40 assists. Jenna Sonnenberg had a game-high 23 digs.

The Bulls and Huskies will meet again tomorrow afternoon at 1 pm.
