ATHENS, OH – The University at Buffalo volleyball team concluded their two-match series with the Ohio Bobcats on Friday afternoon, falling 3-0.
Ohio took the contest, 25-14, 25-13, 25-20 as the Bobcats had big advantages in the first two sets to take the 2-0 lead.
The Bulls made some lineup changes in the third and played their best volleyball of the afternoon with the addition of freshman Stacia Gollogly and junior Paige Beck off the bench.
While the Bobcats had big advantages at the media timeout in each of the first two sets, the Bulls trailed 15-12 at the break in the third. Following a kill from senior Lexi Nordmann and an ace from freshman Milla Malik, the Bobcats called their first timeout as the Bulls pulled within two at 16-14.
However, Ohio scored three straight out of the timeout and would pull ahead 21-16 before UB scored the next two on a kill from freshman Emma Gielas and a service ace from Beck. The Bobcats had match point at 24-18, but the Bulls fought off two of those on a block from Gielas and Courtney Okwara and a kill from Nordmann before Ohio closed out the set and the match.
Gielas led the Bulls with seven kills, while Malik added six kills and six digs. Okwara added five kills, hitting .400 on the afternoon.
Junior Kyndal Bacon finished with 12 assists and a season-high 13 digs, leading the team defensively. Beck added six digs, all of those coming in the third set. Gielas and Okwara both finshed with two blocks.
The Bulls are back in action on Thursday when they host Central Michigan at 6pm.
