BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's basketball team took an early lead and never looked back as four Bulls scored in double figures in a 98-43 victory over Daemen on Thursday evening at Alumni Arena.
Buffalo was led by junior Dyaisha Fair who scored 20 points to go along with five rebounds and eight assists. Redshirt fifth year Summer Hemphill flirted with a double-double as she finished with 17 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Freshman Georgia Woolley also scored in double figures with 14 points, including 4-of-6 shooting from behind the arc, and senior Adebola Adeyeye added 10 points.
The Bulls got off to a hot start as Fair and Jazmine Young poured in a pair of threes and Adeyeye and Loren Christie attacked the boards for a pair of offensive rebound putbacks to give UB a 12-8 lead at the first media timeout. Buffalo would extend the run to 13-0 out of the media on a three ball from Fair and a pair of buckets from Christie and Hemphill to go up 21-8 before Fair would hit a transition jumper as time expired to give Buffalo a 23-8 lead at the end of the first.
It was a slow start to the second quarter for both teams before Adeyeye converted on the midrange jumper and the foul to give UB a 30-10 lead at the 7:51 mark and they would lead 34-12 at the media timeout. Buffalo would heat up from deep as UB drained four straight triples from Fair, Cheyenne McEvans and Hemphill to give the Bulls a 50-16 lead at the half.
It was a back-and-forth affair to start the third quarter as the Bulls would maintain a 58-24 lead at the media timeout. Junior Dominique Camp impressed in her first game in the blue and white as she found Hemphill with a beautiful no look pass for an easy bucket on the block and would later drain a mid-range jumper in transition to put the Bulls up 62-24 lead with just over three minutes to play in the quarter and they would take a 70-29 lead at the end of the third.
Woolley would give the Bulls a spark to start the fourth quarter as she heated up from deep draining three straight triples to extend the UB lead to 50 at the final media timeout with just over four minutes to play and that would be all Buffalo would need as they cruised to victory.
The Bulls stuck to their core values as they dominated the glass, outrebounding the Wildcats 44-30, and the paint, winning the battle inside 32-20, while also scoring 29 points off Daemen turnovers. UB showed its depth as well as all 10 players who saw action found the scoring column on the day.
Buffalo will return to action when it opens the season on Tuesday, November 9 as they welcome crosstown rival Canisius to Alumni Arena for a 7pm tipoff.
