
Bulls Drop Season Opener At Miami (OH), 3-0

OXFORD, OH – Playing for the first time in 428 days, the University at Buffalo volleyball team took the court to begin their 2021 spring competition season on Friday night, facing the preseason MAC East favorite Miami (OH). The Bulls were unable to upset the RedHawks in Oxford, OH, falling, 3-0.
The RedHawks took the contest, 25-18, 25-22, 25-10 as Miami hit .341 for the night, opposed to just .020 for UB.
The Bulls had their best performance in the second set, including an early 5-4 lead on a kill from sophomore Abby Leigh. The Bulls trailed 18-13 in the set when they would attempt to make a late comeback. A block from Monika Simkova and Courtney Okwara pulled the Bulls within 22-20, but UB wouldn't get any closer as the RedHawks took the set, 25-22.
Buffalo was led offensively by freshman Emma Gielas, who had a match-high eight kills as she hit a team-best, .353. Gielas also added two aces and a block.
Leigh finished with six kills and six digs, while Simkova and Okwara each added five kills. Simkova added three blocks and Okwara had two.
Senior Lexi Nordmann finished with three kills and three blocks, including a solo. Four Bulls had six digs, which included Leigh, junior Paige Beck, and setters Emma Puzausky and Kyndal Bacon. Puzausky added 13 assists, while Bacon had seven.
The Bulls return to action tomorrow night when they will play the RedHawks again at 7pm.
