
Women’s Tennis To Open Spring Season Friday

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team opens up their spring season on Friday at Miller Tennis Center. The team will take on St. Bonaventure at 1 p.m. followed by Niagara at 7 p.m.
The MAC preseason favorites to win the regular season will return to the court with a full arsenal. Emel Abibula will bring her senior experience to the court after finishing the fall season with a 7-2 record. Pia Schwarz, who earned second-team All-MAC honors a season ago, looks to continue her dominance this spring after a successful fall season with a 7-3 record. Junior Gabriella Akopyan led the Bulls in wins during the fall season finishing with an 8-2 record.
Also adding depth to the roster are returning sophomores as Nikoleta Antoniou-Karademitrou and Hsin-Yuan Shih that each picked up five wins this fall.
Looking to make their collegiate spring debuts are freshmen Azra Deniz Comlek, Alexis Tensfeldt and Lolina Schietekat Sedas.
St. Bonaventure is 1-3 on the season, opening the year with a 4-3 win over Loyola (MD). Niagara is 2-2 on the year as Buffalo already defeated the Purple Eagles during the fall, 7-0.
Looking ahead, the Bulls will have another tough weekend as they travel to Morgantown, WV as they will take on the West Virginia University at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7 and will face Youngstown State on Saturday, Feb. 8 at noon in Youngstown, OH.
