Bulls Sweep A Pair Of Friday Matches

WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team opened up spring competition on Friday with a pair of 7-0 sweeps against St. Bonaventure and Niagara.
The Bulls opened Friday with a 7-0 win over St. Bonaventure, winning all three doubles matches and all six singles contests, including five in straight sets. Sophomore Nikoleta Antoniou-Karademitrou and Azra Deniz Comlek came away with a 6-0 win at second doubles, while Pia Schwarz and Ambre Amat won 7-5 at one and Emel Abibula and Gabriella Akopyan won 6-4 at three.
In singles, Antoniou-Karademitrou finished first as she dropped just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 victory at six. Abibula won 6-0, 6-2 at second singles and Amat claimed a 6-1, 6-3 victory at four. Schwarz then won at first singles, 6-2, 6-4 and Comlek won at five, 6-4, 7-6. Akopyan capped off the sweep with a 6-2, 6-7, 10-6 win at third singles.
In the nightcap, UB again swept the competition, winning all six singles matches in straight sets. Akopyan and Amat won the first doubles match at two, 6-2 and they then won 6-3 at first singles courtesy of Schwarz and Antoniou-Karademitrou. Abibula and Comlek then won at third doubles, 6-4.
Abibula won first in singles as she scored a 6-0, 6-0 win at second singles. Amat then won at three, 6-3, 6-0, and Akopyan won at four, 6-1, 6-2.
Schwarz was then victorious at first singles, 6-1, 6-2, while Comlek won at six, 6-2, 6-3. Antoniou-Karademitrou concluded the sweep with a 6-3, 6-3 win at fifth singles.
The Bulls will hit the road next week for a pair of matches beginning on Friday at West Virginia.
