
Bulls Fall To Hot-Shooting Black Knights

BUFFALO, NY – The visiting Army West Point Black Knights shot just under 65% in the second half and 75% from three point range as they defeated the University at Buffalo men's basketball team, 89-76, Saturday afternoon at Alumni Arena.
Army West point went on to make 11 of its first 13 shots of the second half opening a lead that ballooned to as much as 17 points.
The Bulls had their best stretch midway through the opening half as they went on an 11-2 run, which was capped off on back-to-back three pointers from Davonta Jordan and Jeenathan Williams, giving Buffalo its largest lead of the afternoon at 24-17 with 8:58 left. UB held on to a 32-31 lead with 3:30 left when Army West Point closed the half out on an 8-2 run to take a 39-34 lead into the break.
Buffalo scored the opening points of the second half, but the Black Knights responded with 10 straight to go ahead 46-36. Down by eight, the Bulls saw Army use a 10-1 run as a three from Lonnie Grayson put the Black Knights ahead 63-46 with 13:08 left.
UB would go on to make a run, pulling within 65-58 on a fast-break layup from Antwain Johnson with 10:15 remaining, but Army responded with five straight and the Bulls never got any closer than eight for the remainder of the contest.
72 of UB's 76 points came from the starting five, led by Johnson, who had 18 points, while adding three assists. Sophomore Josh Mballa had 15 points and seven rebounds, while Jordan again flirted with a triple double for the second straight game. The senior from Cocoa, FL had 14 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists. He also finished with three steals.
Junior Jayvon Graves had 12 points and six rebounds. The Bulls forced the Black Knights into 20 turnovers, but Army West Point also did an excellent job of sharing the ball, registering 28 assists on 35 made shots.
After 53 rebounds against DePaul last week, the Bulls were outrebounded by their Patriot League foe as the Black Knights held a 38-32 advantage on the glass.
Buffalo will continue its five-game homestand on Wednesday when it plays the first of three straight games against Big 4 competition. The Bulls host Canisius at 7pm at Alumni Arena.
