
Jon Jones Finishes Fifth at 2016 World Indoor Championships

PORTLAND, OR - Jon Jones progressed closer towards his goal of making the USA Olympic team for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro this past weekend with his fifth-place finish at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday. Jones is UB's only individual national champion and is currently is a volunteer assistant coach for throws on the UB track and field team.
His throw of 20.31m (66'7.5") was the best finish by an American at Worlds. The next step for Jones and other American athletes looking to represent the Red, White, and Blue is the USA Olympic Trials, which will be held July 1 – 10, 2016 at Hayward Field, Eugene OR. Jones will compete in the shot put on the first day of the Trials, Friday, July 1, 2016. The top three finishers in the shot put will qualify for the 2016 Olympics.
