
UB Comeback Falls Short At Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, OH - For the third time this season the State University of New York, Buffalo volleyball team went to five sets, but for the third time the Bulls came up short, this time losing to Bowling Green, 3-2, at the Stroh Center on Saturday. The Bulls are now 14-12 on the year and 4-7 in conference play.
The Falcons took the contest 19-25, 25-23, 25-17, 20-25, 15-9 as they outhit the Bulls .226 to .202. The Bulls had to fight back in both of the two sets that they won making late runs for the victory. BG led 15-10 in the opening set when the Bulls went on a 10-3 run to take a 20-18 lead following a Bowling Green attack error. BG pulled within one at 20-19, but the Bulls scored the final five points of the set, three coming on block assists from Akeila Lain and Cassie Shado.
Bowling Green came back with victories in the second and the third to give the home team the 2-1 advantage, but the Bulls weren't done yet as they had one run left in them in the fourth.
BG led 8-4 early in the fourth set and continued to lead 17-14 when the Bulls went on a 6-1 run to take a 20-18 lead. The Falcons tied the set up at 20-20, but the Bulls scored the final five points, two coming on a kill and a service ace from junior Megan Lipski.
However, UB's luck ran out in the fifth set as Bowling Green built an early 8-4 lead in the set. The Bulls got no closer than three at 10-7 before the Falcons ended the match on a 5-2 run.
Junior Tahleia Bishop led the way with a team-high 17 kills, while Lain added 13 kills and junior Amber Hatchett added 10. Freshman Skyler Day had seven kills, while Lipski finished with six despite playing the first three sets as the team's libero. Junior Marissa Prinzbach had a team-high 33 assists.
Defensively, Lipski led the Bulls with 15 digs, while sophomore Megan Lin added 12. The Bulls were strong in the blocking category as they finished with 13.0 total blocks, including seven from Lain and six from Hatchett, including a solo.
The Bulls will now return home as they begin their final conference homestand of the year, playing their next three matches at Alumni Arena. That stretch begins on Friday night when the Bulls host Kent State at 7:00 pm.
