
Four Bulls Named Academic All-MAC

BUFFALO, NY - Four University at Buffalo athletes have been named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field teams, announced its by the conference from its Cleveland headquarters this morning. Men's athletes Austin Price and Jacob Sunday were two of 12 athletes on the men's side, and women's athletes Katie Sanders and Shante' White were named to their respective Academic All-MAC teams.
A sophomore biomedical science major with a 3.47 grade point average, Price won the men's triple jump for UB's fifth league title in the event since the Bulls joined the league in 1999. As the current UB school record holder in the event, he cleared 49-9.75 (15.18m) to win the event by nearly two feet and made the All-MAC first team for his efforts. This follows up an All-Academic honor for Price for the indoor season.
Sunday made the conference's second team after he finished second in the men's javelin competition. His best throw went for 219-1 (66.77m) to finish behind Kent State's Brian Florek (223-5, 68.10m). Sunday is a business management major with a 3.332 GPA.
White followed up her All-American honors during the indoor season with a solid outdoor campaign, culminating in a recent qualification for the upcoming NCAA championships in Eugene, OR. In the hammer throw, she threw 60.73m on her second throw, qualifying for her first-ever Outdoor National Championship. The senior nursing major has a 3.774 GPA, and was an All-Academic honoree for the indoor season.
Sanders earned her first All-Academic honors after the international marketing major earned a 3.701 GPA. She had a record-setting Spring, as she broke her own school record in finishing second in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase at the MAC Outdoor championship, where she earned All-MAC second team recognition. Sanders finished in 10:35.99, shaving almost nine seconds from her previous record set at April's Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton University. She set a second record on the final day of the championships she finishing fourth in the 5,000-meters in 16:50.56 to best Jenny Koeppel's 2004 record by more than seconds and shave 23 seconds from her previous top 2013 time.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50% of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
