
UB Women's Indoor Track and Field Announces Awards

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's indoor track and field squad announced its team awards for the 2013 season. Head coach Vicki Mitchell and her staff made the following presentations: Kara Patrick was named as Top Newcomer; Meghan Manley earned the Most Improved Award; Brooklynn Ventura won the Coaches' Award for the second consecutive year and Shante' White was selected as the Most Valuable Athlete.
Patrick was UB's top distance runner in 2013 as she finished third in the 5,000-meters (16:57.50) and sixth in the 3,000-meters (9:50.26) at the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships. Both times were season-best performances for Patrick and UB's fastest times of the season in both events.
Manley was the team's top middle-distance runner as she set the 800-meters school record of 2:06.97 at the SPIRE Division I Invitational in Geneva, OH on February 9. Manley finished second in the 800-meters in 2:14.43 at the MAC Indoor Championships. She also posted a season-best time of 5:02.87 in the mile at the Penn State Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup on February 2.
Ventura lowered her own UB record in the 60-meter hurdles with an 8.44 seconds clocking at the MAC Indoor Championships as she finished third overall. She also set UB's fastest time in the 200-meters of 25.10 at the SPIRE Midwest Open in Geneva, OH on January 26.
White earned second-team All-America honors at the NCAA National Indoor Championships to cap off an impressive season. White won the MAC weight throw title with a league and UB record of 69-8 (21.23m) and later finished 15th at the NCAA meet at 61-9.75 (18.84m). She won the weight throw at three meets during the regular season, the Cornell Upstate Challenge (January 19), the SPIRE Midwest Open (January 26) and the Cornell Denault Invitational (February 16). White was also named a finalist for the Giant Steps Award presented by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports (NCAS) and named to the Academic All-MAC team for indoor track.
The Bulls placed sixth among 12 schools at the MAC Indoor Championships in February.
