Teams Split Up to Compete at SPIRE, Cornell Meets
University at Buffalo men's and women's track and field athletes were in action on Saturday at both the SPIRE Division I Invitational in Geneva, OH and the Cornell Kane Invitational in Ithaca. There was no scoring in either meet.
Crimmins, Manley Break Mid-Distance Records
At the SPIRE meet, a pair of mid-distance records were broken. Freshman Brian Crimmins was sixth in the men's 1,000-meters in 2:24.16 and broke the UB record previously held by Paul Riley (2004) by more than three seconds. For the UB women, sophomore Meghan Manley had a season-best time in the women's 800-meters in 2:06.97, breaking Asia Henry's 2012 mark (2:07.56).
Lewis Earns Runner-Up Spot
Sprinter Miles Lewis led the Bulls with a second-place finish in the men's 60-meters at the SPIRE meet on Saturday. Lewis turned in a 6.82 clocking in the final to better his preliminary time of 6.86 which placed him sixth of ten qualifiers. Lewis also finished seventh in the men's 200-meters in 21.81.
Field Athletes Finish Near the Top
UB's men's and women's field athletes were well represented at the SPIRE meet. Jonathan Jones scored a fourth-place finish in the men's shot put. Jones had a top throw on Saturday of 60-5.25 (18.42m). Austin Price also had a fourth-place finish in the men's triple jump as he cleared 48-10.25 (14.89m) tying him for the spot with Jarred Gambrell of Michigan State. For the UB women, Shante' White picked up a fifth-place showing in the women's weight throw at 63-3.50 (19.29m). Erin Miller and Rachel Roberts finished ninth and 10th, respectively in the women's shot put. Miller posted a season-best throw of 47-9 (14.55m) while Roberts had a top mark of 45-9.75 (13.96m). Kelly Truppo finished 10th in the women's pole vault at 12-0.50 (3.67m).
High Jumpers Lead Way at Kane Invite
At the Cornell meet, freshman Mike Morgan won the men's high jump at 6-6.25 (1.99m) while Danielle Anderson finished third in the women's high jump at 5-3 (1.60m), adding two inches to her season-best mark. Micah Oliver took fifth in the men's 60-meters final in 7.04 and sixth in the 200-meters in 22.88. Sabrina Bush was seventh in the women's 60-meter hurdles final in 9.18.
