UB Track Teams Finish Second at Upstate Challenge

ITHACA, NY – The University at Buffalo's men's and women's indoor track and field teams both turned in second-place finishes behind host Cornell at Saturday's Upstate Challenge at Barton Hall. The UB men totaled 116 points to Cornell's 211.50 while the UB women earned 103 points to Cornell's 216 in the seven-team meets.
The UB men won three events and set two new school records while the UB women also won three events.
Headlining the men's efforts was sprinter Miles Lewis. Lewis broke the UB men's record in winning the 60-meters in 6.76 seconds, eclipsing Ezekiel Porter's 2007 record by .01 seconds. Lewis also won the 200-meter in 21.56, .07 seconds off Porter's 2007 mark. Darien Johnson finished third in the 200-meters in 22.78 and fifth in the 60-meters in 6.92 for the Bulls.
Also claiming a first-place finish for the UB men was sophomore Austin Price in the triple jump. Price turned in a best leap of 50-0.75, nearly three feet better than his opening week performance at the Eastern Michigan Triangular. Doug Hannon finished third in the event at 46-9.50 (14.26m), also a season best.
Chris Reape broke Peter Bligh's 2011 record in the high jump. Reape cleared 6-11.50 (2.12m) to finish second in the competition while adding three-quarters of an inch to Bligh's old mark.
Other second-place finishes for the men's squad included Will Cole in the 500-meters (1:05.43) and Craig Howard in the men's heptathlon (4,954 points). Howard won the pole vault portion of the competition with a leap of 15-1 (4.60m).
Jonathan Jones led three Bulls in the men's shot put as he finished second at 54-6 (16.61m). Evan Palmer was third at 53-5 (16.28m) and Sean Harvey was fourth at 51-5 (15.67m), season-best performances for both throwers. Jones also finished fourth in the men's weight throw in a season-best 55-5 (16.89m).
Shante' White led the Bulls to the top three spots in the women's weight throw with a season-best mark of 60-6 (18.44m). Erin Miller was second at 54-4 (15.56m) and Kristy Woods was third at 53-1.50 (16.19m). Miller also placed second in the women's shot put at 46-4 (14.12m) with Woods third at 44-9.50 (13.65m).
Malayah White won the women's 60-meters in 7.68 seconds and also placed third in the 200-meters in 25.24. Donna Jeanty won the women's 500-meters in 1:14.49.
Brooklynn Ventura placed second in the women's 60-meter hurdles in 8.72 with Asher Beasley fourth in a season-best 8.98.
The women's relay teams also finished second. Crystal Graham, Beasley, Uwa Omorogbe and Camaria Long combined in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:57.47 while Jeanty, Gina Carnovale, Kyla Kenyon and Regine Lazard placed second in the 4x800-meter relay in 9:44.89.
Kelly Truppo and Jenna Van Dusen tied for third in the women's pole vault at 12-1.50 (3.70m). It was a season-best performance for Van Dusen.
The Bulls travel to the SPIRE Midwest Open in Geneva, OH next weekend.
