Teams Finish Second at Toledo
The University at Buffalo's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams both turned in second-place finishes at the Toledo Collegiate Challenge on Saturday. The UB women won four events while the UB men took of a pair of competitions on Saturday. The women's team scored 184 points, just shy of homestanding Toledo's 192 points. The men totaled 150 points and finished 11 points behind Central Michigan (161). MAC squads Eastern Michigan and Bowling Green were also in the field.
Women's Relayers Break School Mark
The women's 4x100-meter relay squad set a new record in winning their race on Saturday. The foursome of Jamiee McClary, Anna Holmes, Brooklynn Ventura and Crystal Graham finished in 46.21, lowering the previous record, set last season, by three-tenths of a second. McClary, Ventura, Graham and Bridgette Kendricks posted the old mark of 46.53 at last season's Jim Thorpe Open at Penn State. Additionally, Ventura had a second-place finish in the women's 100-meter hurdles in 14.07 while Graham was second in the women's 200-meters in 25.47.
Henry, Jeanty Claim Women's Victories
Also taking victories on the track for the UB women were Asia Henry in the 800-meters and Donna Jeanty in the 400-meter hurdles. Racing in chilly conditions, Henry led three UB racers to the top three spots in the 800-meters winning in 2:11.67, posting the fastest time in the Mid-American Conference thus far this season. Freshman Meghan Manley was second in 2:13.73 and Jackie Burns was third in 2:14.40. Jeanty and Holmes finished first and second in the 400-meter hurdles. Jeanty took the race in 1:01.10 while Holmes finished in 1:02.07.
Women's Shot Putters Also Go One-Two
Rachel Roberts and Kristy Woods turned in a one-two finish in the women's shot put. Roberts took the event for the first time since undergoing back surgery last spring. Roberts won with a season-best throw of 14.61 meters with Woods right behind at 14.53 meters. Woods also finished second in the women's hammer throw at 54.61 meters as Erin Miller was third at 52.68 meters. Additionally, Miller placed fifth in the women's discus throw at 39.67 meters.
UB Men Take Long Jump, 5,000-Meters
For the UB men, Brian Archie won the men's long jump with a season-best leap of 7.08 meters. Tomarris Bell placed second at 6.94 meters and Sigusmund Ajavon was fifth at a season-best 6.64 meters. The Bulls also placed three among the top five in the men's triple jump as Bell took second at 14.44 meters with Doug Hannon third at 14.24 meters and Marvin Cox fifth at 13.94 meters. Hannon and Cox posted season-bests on their finishes. John Inzina also scored a first-place finish for UB's distance runners as he took the 5,000-meters in 14:50.26 running a patient and tactical race and lowering his personal best by more than 20 seconds. Andris Goncarovs (14:57.47) and Zach Ahart (14:58.03) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, also setting personal bests.
