Golabek Earns MAC Field Athlete of the Week Honors

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo thrower Rob Golabek has been named the Mid-American Conference's Male Field Athlete of the Week. The league announced its award winners from its Cleveland headquarters this afternoon.
Golabek continued his obliteration of the men's shot put mark with another school record heave to win the event at 63-2.25 (19.26m) at the season-opening Doug Raymond Invitational at Kent State University last Saturday. The throw improved the record set by Golabek at last season's Penn State Sykes-Sabock Cup by more than a foot and is also a Mid-American Conference record which stood since 2006.
In 2011, Golabek earned All-America honors in the indoor and outdoor shot puts at the NCAA National Championships and was named Northeast Region Field Athlete of the Year for the indoor and outdoor seasons by the USTFCCCA. He gained first-team All-MAC honors with his victories in the event at the league's indoor and outdoor championships and won the league's Field Athlete of the Week honor five times.
The Bulls travel to Ithaca on Saturday for the Cornell Upstate Challenge.
