Bulls Drop A Pair At Eastern Michigan

YPSILANTI, MI – The University at Buffalo softball team fell in each of its two games on Friday afternoon to Eastern Michigan, losing the opener 12-0 and then dropping a tightly contested game, 2-1. Today's doubleheader was the beginning of the final regular season weekend for the Bulls.

In the opener the Eagles chased UB starter Holly Johnson after 1.2 innings as she allowed five runs in the frame including five doubles by Eastern Michigan hitters. It was the first of two big innings for EMU as it also put up a seven spot in the fourth.

The Bulls managed just three hits in the opener over the five innings as Johnson picked up the loss. Junior Haylee Land and freshman Tori Speckman also both saw action in the opener.

Johnson pitched much better in the second game as she went 6.0 innings, allowing just two runs despite picking up the loss. The complete game was the seventh of the season for Johnson, which leads the team.

The Eagles picked up a run in the bottom of the first, but the Bulls answered in the top of the second as senior Alexandra Bejarano led off the inning with a double to left field. She would score on the next at bat as Jessica Griffin singled to first base and Bejarano came home as the EMU first baseman was unable to play the ball.

Following a one-hour rain delay in the middle of the second, the two teams came back tied until the Eagles scored one in the bottom of the third. The Bulls were able to record just one hit over the final four innings.

Griffin went 2-for-3 in the second game to lead the Bulls. Bejarano and Kristin Waldron had the other two hits for UB.

The Bulls are back in action tomorrow as they begin a two-game series at Central Michigan. First pitch is set for 2:00 pm.
