Strong Shooting Leads Bowling Green Past Buffalo, 81-64

BUFFALO, NY – The visiting Bowling Green Falcons led throughout on Wednesday night as they defeated the University at Buffalo women's basketball team, 81-64, at Alumni Arena. The Bulls were led by juniorKourtney Brown, who finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds, her 16th double-double of the season.
The Falcons scored the first eight points of the game and the Bulls would pull within four just twice early in the contest. Down 13-6, a three-pointer from sophomore Brittany Hedderson pulled UB within four at 13-9 with 12:44 left in the half. The Bulls continued to be down by just five with 8:32 left in the half when Bowling Green went on an 8-0 run. The Falcons led by as many as 15 in the first half, but the Bulls pulled it to within seven with just four seconds left in the half when Bowling Green's Tracy Pontius hit a long three at the buzzer to give the Falcons a 10-point lead at the half.

Bowling Green would go on a 15-6 run to start the second half as it took its largest lead of the game at 19 with 12:38 left. From there, the Bulls staged a 10-0 run to pull within nine, with six of those points coming on back-to-back threes from Hedderson and junior Jessica Fortman. The Bulls remained down by nine where Bowling Green went on an 8-0 run of its own, including two three-pointers from Sarah Clapper. With the Falcons back up by 17, UB was unable to cut into the lead as BGSU never led by less than 15 for the final 7:20 of the game.
UB was led by Brown's 20 points and 11 rebounds. The rebounding total now gives her 306 for the season, the third most in school history. She also has 712 rebounds for her career, ninth in school history. Her 20 points give her 477 on the season, the sixth highest total in school history. Brown had five of those rebounds on the offensive end, giving her 157 offensive boards, which is now the highest total in the nation.

Fortman finished with 21 points, five rebounds and three assists, while Hedderson added 11 points on the night. Sophomore Beth Christensenpicked up her first career start and finished with nine points, five rebounds and a career-high four blocked shots. Freshman Abby Dowdhad eight points and four assists. Redshirt junior Ashley Zuber came off the bench to record a game-high five assists.
The Falcons were led by Jen Uhl and Tamika Nurse, who each had 20 points. Uhl also had eight rebounds, while Nurse also recorded four assists.
The Bulls hit the road for the final time in the regular season on Saturday afternoon as they head to Ohio. Tipoff with the Bobcats is set for 2:00 pm.
