2014: Whelan competed in back-to-back 8,000-meter races for the Bulls as a rookie...he clocked a season-best time of 27:10 on Oct. 4 at Lehigh''s Paul Short Invitational and added a 27:31 finish at the Princeton Invitational on Oct. 18.
High School: Attended Cheektowaga Central High School...ran for coach Rich Bridenbaker...set eight indoor and five outdoor school records for the Warriors...a three-year team MVP...named Indoor Small School Section VI MVP...three-time Division III champions...raced on the championship 4x800-meter relay at the Small School State and the Emerging Elite National Championships...also played football for the Warriors.
