
Cross Country Wins Both Races at St. John Fisher in Season Opener

ROCHESTER, NY – The University at Buffalo cross country program began its season at the St. John Fisher University Rodenbeck Invitational on Friday night. The Buffalo women won the 4k race for the second consecutive season, while the Buffalo men won the 6k race amongst nine teams.
The women's team opened the evening by taking first place of the eight programs in attendance. Meghana Reddy won the women's 4k race, taking first place in the field of 108 runners with a time of 15:08.7. Megan Smith (2nd, 15:30.0) and Ella Reilly (3rd, 15:30.4) trailed closely to give the Bulls the top three placements, with Sophie Brettholtz (9th, 15:50.9) and Leslie Villafuerte Castro (13th, 16:04.7) rounding out the Bulls top five runners. Reese Wilber (14th, 16:06.9) and Kaitlyn Edinger (16th, 16:10.8) also competed for the program, putting seven Bulls inside the top 16 to place.
The men's program continued the Bulls momentum by taking first place. Cameron Bogdan won the men's 6k race, taking first place in the field of 92 runners with a time of 19:18.0. Freshmen Evan Feider (3rd, 19:41.9), Gage Feider (4th, 19:51.6), Andrew Green (5th, 19:56.1) and Caleb Feider (6th, 20:01.1) rounded out the Bulls top five. Ethan Verbosky (10th, 20:09.3), Simon Aguilar (11th, 20:18.1) and Nicholas Morgan (29th, 21:17.6) also competed for the Bulls.
"It was a great way to start the season," said Program Director and Head Coach Vicki Mitchell. "The teams ran determined to win despite conditions from the rain the past few days. We planned to run as a pack and pace together through the first couple kilometers and push as the race continued to finish strong."
