Bulls Hit the Road with Trips to UMass and Akron

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo softball team (17-20, 6-6 MAC) will be on the road for six straight against conference opponents starting Tuesday afternoon. The Bulls will face the UMass Minutewomen (11-21, 3-9 MAC) on Tuesday at 2 p.m. with a doubleheader. Their series will wrap up on Wednesday at 2 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, they will go to Akron to face the Zips (17-19, 9-3 MAC). Saturday will be a doubleheader at 1 p.m. as Sunday will begin at noon.
The Bulls are coming off a 3-2 week last week as they swept Niagara on Tuesday, 14-13 and 8-2. In the first game of the doubleheader, Abbey Nagel hit the program's 12th grand slam and the first since 2023. The Bulls trailed 2-0 in the fifth inning of the second game, but fought back in the fifth and sixth innings. Buffalo tied the game in the fifth as Nagel hit her third career triple that scored two runs. Their offense exploded in the sixth inning as they scored six runs including a two-run home run from Bella Smithson, her seventh dinger of the season.
The Bulls went 1-2 against the Miami (OH) RedHawks over the weekend. After falling in the first game, 10-3, Buffalo bounced back to take the second game 9-5. This marked Buffalo's first win over the RedHawks since 2018, snapping a 19-game losing streak. In the win, Genevieve Longsdorf tossed 6.2 innings in relief, allowing just one earned run on seven hits. Buffalo's offense scored seven runs in the third inning. Nagel's bat stayed hot as she hit a three-run homer in the inning.
Reagan Terwilliger led the Bulls with a .615 batting average with a 1.077 slugging percentage as she recorded a pair of doubles and triples. Scoring six runs, she added five RBIs. Nicole Allen led the Bulls with seven runs scored as she had a .556 batting average. Nagel led the way with 10 of the Bulls' 32 RBIs over the course of the five games.
As a team, the Bulls finished with a .525 slugging percentage to go with their .429 on base percentage. They hit three home runs to bring their season total to 24, their most since 2023 when they finished with 30.
On the season, Nagel leads the team with 32 RBIs as Bri Delaney also reached 30 RBIs. Smithson isn't far behind with 29 on the season. Nicole Allen has a team-high 49 hits with Terwilliger (45), Emily Gorman (41) and Nagel (40) in the 40-hit club. As a team, their .304 batting average would be a program record.
In the circle, Longsdorf leads the way with a 7-5 record and a 6.07 ERA. In 83.0 innings pitched she has allowed a .290 batting average. Olivia Russ has 35 strikeouts on the season.
UMass is 11-21 on the season and 3-9 in MAC play. Odyssey Torres leads the Minutewomen with a .410 batting average and a 1.228 OPS. Her 16 extra-base hits are the most on the team, including three home runs. In the circle, Hannah Streicher has a 3.94 ERA in 101.1 innings pitched. This will mark the first conference meeting between the programs as the Minutewomen lead the all-time series, 2-0.
Akron is currently 17-19 overall with a 9-3 conference record. The Zips have won their last three games and are 5-1 at home this season. On the season, Meagan Lee leads the Zips with a .372 batting average as she's tallied 42 hits. Sophia Wygast has a team-high 35 RBIs. In the circle, Madie Jamrog has a 3.82 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 84.1 innings of work. As a team, they have a 4.41 ERA. Akron leads the all-time series with a 44-15 record. Last season, the Bulls and Zips split their doubleheader.
