
Bulls Post Nine Performances That Join Program History at the Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, NC – The University at Buffalo track and field program competed at the Raleigh Relays on the campus of North Carolina State University from Thursday through Saturday. The Bulls had an eventful weekend, posting nine performances that joined the program's all-time outdoor rankings.
THURSDAY
Vincent Guaresimo, Aidan Norris and Noah Brightman began the action for the Bulls on Thursday, competing in the men's 1,500-meter. Guaresimo set a new personal best in the event, posting a time of 3:53.03. The sophomore's time was less than three seconds shy of reaching the program's outdoor record book (3:50.72). Norris finished the event in 3:53.60, just over three seconds shy of his personal best that ranks ninth in program history (3:50.35). Brightman rounded out the event for the Bulls with a time of 3:59.09.
Luke Stoeffler was the Bulls' top finisher in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase. The senior placed 59th in the event with a time of 9:22.51. Collin Stafford trailed to take 63rd with a time of 9:26.55.
FRIDAY
Michael Parks began the Bulls' momentum on day two, finishing fifth of 47 competitors in the 110-meter hurdles with a new personal best time of 14.20. The senior's performance joined the program's outdoor record book to rank fourth all-time. Parks also now ranks first in the conference this season. The senior set a new school record in the 60-meter hurdles at Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships. The 110-meter hurdles school record is currently 13.96 seconds (Ryan Billian, 2017).
Sam Mellinger continued the program's momentum in the 100-meter dash, posting a time of 10.55 to place 22nd of 106 sprinters. Mellinger's time joined the outdoor record book, ranking fifth in program history. Freshman Matthew Schaffert also competed, finishing 51st with a time of 10.70, less than a tenth of a second shy of reaching UB's all-time top 10 (10.62).
Vassi Klock headlined day two for the Buffalo women, rising to second in program history in the women's 1,500-meter with a time of 4:25.26. The senior placed 55th of 216 runners in the event. Bronagh Cassidy posted a personal record of her own, with a time of 4:32.20 to place 130th. The senior's performance earned the ninth spot in UB outdoor history.
Micah Blair and Nicalis Williams made their mark on program history with their season debut in the triple jump. Blair posted a personal best mark of 14.68 meters to place 13th of 40 athletes. The sophomore's personal record tied Mark Curry (2001) for eighth in program history. Blair also ranks first in the conference this season with the performance. Williams finished the event with a distance of 14.59 meters, taking 16th. The freshman's mark ranks 10th in program history. Williams' mark ranks second in the MAC.
On the women's side of the triple jump, Kara Moran placed seventh of 27 athletes with a mark of 12.28 meters. Moran was the top MAC finisher in the event, surpassing three competitors from conference programs. The junior was less than two-tenths of a meter shy of her outdoor best, which ranks sixth in program history (12.47m).
Gemma Galligani (15th, 14.14) and Linnea Neureuther (16th, 14.15) earned top 20 placements in the women's 100-meter hurdles field of 88 runners. Galligani's time ranks second in the conference this season, with Neureuther in third. Krista Perry also competed for the Bulls, placing 45th with a time of 14.68.
Uma Bhattacharjee was the program's top finisher in the women's 100-meter dash, posting a time of 12.27 seconds. The junior was less than a tenth of a second shy of her personal best in the event (12.19). Hailey Martinez (12.39) and Sophia Sampson (12.39) were next to place for the Bulls, with Amber McDonald (12.62) rounding out the team's sprinters.
The Bulls had four sprinters compete in the men's 400-meter. Malachi Taylor (42nd, 48.27) and Rylee VanAlstine (46th, 48.32) earned top 50 placements in the field of 126 student-athletes. Taylor was just shy of VanAlstine's outdoor personal best, which ranks 10th in program history (48.16). Freshmen Keoni Chong (63rd, 48.93) and Kala'i Makanani (87th, 49.56) also earned top 90 placements for the program.
Stella Kapp placed 27th in the women's high jump to round out day two's competitors, posting a mark of 1.67 meters.
SATURDAY
Klock continued her momentum from day two, setting a new personal best time of 2:10.93 in the 800-meter to place 55th of 178 runners. The senior rose from ninth to eighth in the UB outdoor rankings, surpassing teammate Juliette Salazar (2:10.94, 2025). Salazar trailed closely to take 67th with a time of 2:11.52. Cassidy rounded out the program's competitors, finishing 114th with a personal best time of 2:14.10.
Schaffert headlined for the Buffalo men in the 200-meter, setting a personal record of 21.36 to place 18th of 104 sprinters. The freshman's time earned the sixth spot in UB outdoor history. VanAlstine (61st, 21.99), Chong (62nd, 22.01) and Makanani (89th, 22.67) also competed for the program.
Galligani joined the program's all-time outdoor rankings with a personal best time of 1:02.18 in the 400-meter hurdles. The junior earned the ninth spot in UB outdoor history and placed 28th of 62 competitors in the event. The time ranks sixth in the conference.
Sampson was the Bulls' top finisher in the women's 200-meter dash, placing 62nd in the field of 149 sprinters with a time of 25.01. Bhattacharjee finished 109th (25.52) and Martinez placed 114th (25.61).
Norris finished 40th of 193 runners in the men's 800-meter with a time of 1:51.66. The freshman was nearly two seconds shy of his personal best in the event that ranks fourth in program history (1:49.50).
Blair closed out the field events for the Bulls by placing 15th of 52 athletes in the men's long jump. The sophomore finished the event with a mark of 6.82 meters.
The Buffalo women opened the day on the track by placing 18th in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 47.31. The relay team was just over two seconds shy of the program's all-time record (45.29). The Buffalo women closed the meet out on the track by finishing 18th again with a time of 3:50.58.
The Buffalo men ended the meet on the track by finishing 17th in the 4x400-meter relay. The Bulls relay team finished the event in 3:16.04.
