GAME 3 VS. BOSTON U
Both teams combined for 41 hits, 23 of which went to the Bulls as they set a new program record for hits in a single game. Buffalo's 20 runs scored were the most allowed by Boston U in their program's history. Reagan Terwilliger went 4-for-4 in the contest, with Abbey Nagel going 4-for-6. They tied the program record for most hits in a game.
The Terriers entered the game as the Patriot League preseason favorite as they had won the last three Patriot League Tournament titles. Buffalo got on top early courtesy of a sac fly from Bri Delaney to score Emily Gorman. Nagel added to the lead with an RBI single that scored Terwilliger.
The Terriers responded in the bottom of the first with an RBI double and a 2-RBI single to put them in front, 3-2.
In the second, a bases loaded walk by Delaney tied the game at 3. Nagel bat stayed hot as she ripped in Nicole Allen and Miranda Zipp to take a 5-3 lead. In the bottom of the second, the Terriers threatened with runners on first and second and no outs, but three straight fly outs by Olivia Russ quieted the Terriers.
After the Bulls went down in order, Boston U took the lead with a 4-run third inning. Their lead didn't last as Buffalo punched back. Following a pair of singles, Lily Lauck drove in Terwilliger to cut Boston U's lead down to 7-6. Nagel delivered yet again with an RBI single through the right side to score Allen and tie the game at 7. After forcing a pitching change, Bella Smithson nearly hit a three-run home run to center field. Her RBI double off the wall gave the Bulls an 8-7 lead. Tabitha von Kolen singled to right field to score Nagel and extend the lead. von Kolen and Sophia Avin padded Buffalo's lead to 11-7.
An RBI single in the bottom of the fourth by the Terriers made it an 11-8 Buffalo lead after four innings. In the bottom of the fifth, Boston U tied the game at 11 as they scored three runs on four hits and a pair of errors.
Buffalo bounced right back in the sixth. Gorman's 2-RBI double to left field gave the Bulls the lead back at 13-11. A Terwilliger single scored Gorman to push the lead to 14-11. Lauck recorded her second hit of the day which resulted in Terwilliger to score. Delaney hit an RBI single that scored Lauck from first base. The Bulls led 16-11 headed to the bottom half of the inning. A sac fly by the Terriers cut Buffalo's lead to 16-12.
The fireworks carried over into the seventh inning. The Bulls scored four runs on four hits and a couple of errors to take a 20-12 lead. In the inning, Ardyn Hopf, Terwilliger, Gorman and Thelen came around to score for the Bulls. Boston U made it interesting as they did not back down. With two outs, the Terriers rallied to score four runs, to make it 20-16. The Bulls shut down the Terriers' hops of a rally to escape with the win.
Buffalo's offense did a number on reigning Patriot League Pitcher of the Year Kasey Ricard as they scored 9 runs on 12 hits and two walks in her 3.0 innings of work.
Nagel finished with a team-high 5 RBIs as Gorman (3), Lauck (2) and Delaney (4) had multiple RBIs on the day.
GAME 4 VS. #19 DUKE
The Bulls held the nationally ranked Blue Devils in check. Melena Toth tossed two shutout innings until the Blue Devils put up three runs in the third inning on four hits.
Trailing 3-0, the Bulls got on the board in the sixth inning after a Bri Delaney RBI double down the right field line that scored Nicole Allen. Buffalo couldn't pull out the rally in the seventh inning as they fell, 3-1.
Both Delaney and Allen went 2-for-3 against Duke. Delaney had the only extra base hit for the Bulls. Olivia Russ tossed 3.0 shutout innings for the Bulls in relief.
